It’s March 1st! Which means it’s time to prep for Camp NaNoWriMo in April!
*insert inwardly screaming here*
I’m going to do something crazy for Camp NaNo…again. Last year, I tried writing the now-on-hold Preserving The Past trilogy out of order.
Book #2 would be in April, Book #3 in July, and Book #1 in November. And the goals would be different: B2 had a goal of 25k, B3 a goal of 32k, and B3 a goal of 50k.
But then I went and decided I was going to combine #2 & #3 before July.
I reached B2 and B1’s goals, but the rewrite of #2?
KERSPLAT. (To be fair though, we did go on two vacations in July…within two weeks of each other…and I was trying to handwrite it instead of using the computer…)
Now, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad, but I’d say the number one reason why that experiment ultimately failed though was because the PTP books have an overarching storyline.
Writing an overreaching storyline out of order just doesn’t work. Don’t try it.
But why am I trying it again?
Answer: To figure out if it works for an episodic series, which is what the Matthews Family series is.
This April, I’m going to tackle Take My Hand, Book #3 in the Matthews Family series.
Originally, it was Book #2, but then I realized that Connor & Kelly’s relationship changed rather abruptly from where it was in Into My Life (Book #1) to where it was in Take My Hand.
It was like this:
IML: Practically strangers on opposite sides of a missing persons case. He’s a suspect, she’s a detective.
TMH: They’re dating-get engaged-married-and then have a kid at the end.
Yeah, big jump. So I added a book in between those two for the purpose of developing their relationship so it didn’t seem so abrupt a change, thus making Take My Hand Book #3.
I’m rambling. Anyway…
For April, I’m writing Take My Hand, which has already turned into my favorite of the series (not to mention it’s actually the most-developed).
For July’s Camp NaNoWriMo, More Than A Feeling, which is Book #2.
And then in November…either I’ve gone insane or I got a brilliant idea. (That last line is sarcastic)
I’m going to write Books #1 and #4…at the same time.
HALP.
(But there’s always the possibility I’ll change my mind and just go with one of them and save the other for next year)
Oh, and did I mention there’s also a prequel?
Tell me your thoughts below! What are you working on for Camp NaNo this April? .
Sounds like you’re up to some fun (or torture, whichever, xD)! As for meself, I’m gonna work on my trouble child. *sigh* I’m hoping it’ll turn out right this time…
